Consider working in a University environment with budget constraints,
and what ever equipment you can get. Within these constraints you are
working with custom software written by grad and maybe undergrad
students. Although I do find the outages annoying, there are many
legitimate reasons for failures with the implementation and scaling
up of a system
Teething problems are common even with commercial systems on proven
equipment.
ON TOP of that there are only 2 paid people working as programmers!
ALL the rest are volunteers!
