What I am wondering is, is there anyway Boinc will run with a dial up
connection only connecting every few days? Or will I have to go to
Broadband or dial on demand in order to carry on running Seti? Can I
still turn machines off without bringing a WU to a grinding halt? And
is Boinc still amenable to transfer by floppy disk? Or am I going to
have to invest in a wireless network.
AFAICT it's impossible at present to run BOINC on a system that can't
get its own WUs direct from Berkeley, but you should be able to do
most of the processing offline. Note that because of various problems
with the servers, connecting may not do what it's supposed to -- if
you have problems over the next while, until things get sorted out,
don't assume your setup's malfunctioning. There doesn't seem to be a
concise FAQ on the website, but browsing or searching this NG and the
message boards at
<http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_help_desk.php>
should answer most of your questions.
