I agree. Microsoft do far better than that in my opinion in that they charge you lots of money for you to then be forced to sign a Microsoft EULA whereby you agree that Microsoft has no responsibility whatsoever for your data or hardware or any frustrations that you might suffer. In fact, despite paying lots of money, they don't agree to anything for you other than whatever may or may not already be on *their* CD "as-is". (It all stays all theirs, proprietary, and locked, including the data that is /your/ work!...)


Meanwhile, Boinc and the projects are free, fun, and useful.

Apart from watching the various server-side problems for various projects, the Boinc system here has continuously worked fine.
