OK ... thanks for that. I shall probably try to hook the stand alone
computers up to an external modem ... seems the easiest way to do
things. This cache feature will actually cut down on the work I do at
the moment transferring individual work units with my floppy network.
I've almost processed my first unit on the slow machine, I don't think
I'm going to need an always on connection although in checking out my
options I've found some prices that are better than what I pay now for
dial up so I expect I shall upgrade.
What is about to install a network card in each computer, and make a
little lan ? - Should also be inexpensive.
All my prior attempts with networking have failed despite my having the
network cards and cabling. I have 3 machine close together (and at any
moment one could be sold or replaced) so I think my external modem
solution is the easiest to implement for now. I thought I would have to
go to a permanent connection Internet solution but after some heavy dial
up usage over this past week it looks like I can still get by on dial
up. WUs even seem to download faster than they did with seti (2 at a
time).
