I have one computer that refuses to download WUs from BOINC while the

I just managed to find the problem and that one just finished

This one is just running too much stuff to take the CPU cycles for any
of the BOINC apps.

Thank Roger. I'm up and running now with 3 PIII computers on 24/7 and a
slower system that I'm working on now which I turn on and off as
required. Working well so far. I check the machines twice a day to make
sure they haven't crashed but that is all I need to do now so I can take
it much easier. I'll be happy when a more stable Win98SE client is

98 SE should be quite stable, but I found conflicts to be more common
with it than with XP. It should do well as long as you stick with the
basic programs such as those in Office.

While I had some problems on one machine with 98 SE I had many apps
running. As I believe I mentioned, my wife's machine running 98 SE
was almost trouble free.

OTOH I had very good luck with ME as well, even running a lot of apps.
However I'd attribute a lot of that to running Norton System Works
which was continually finding things to fix and more than a little
luck. When I upgraded to ME from 98 SE it fixed something on the
order of 360 some problems. I then rebooted and it came up running
just fine and was quite stable.

available, in which case I shall just let them run and run.

They may come out with another client for seti classic but I doubt
it. The move is to get the kinks out of BOINC and do away with the
classic version. At least that is my understanding.

Thanks for the advice on networks but even though the computers are
close to each other I have no need for them the speak to each other.
Seti@home is all they are really there for although I have put a small
footprint game or two on them. I do most of my work on the slowest of
the machines which I turn off.

Cheers
Bill

I'd just like to know what I'm getting myself into ... that's all.
