Hi.. I'm having problems shutting down Windows98se while running Seti
(BOINC
V4.45) When I click the shutdown button a window opens up on the screen
and
says I must shut down BOINC before the computer will shut down. I then
click the OK button, and a end task window pops up, then I click the end
task button and after a minute the machine will shut down. This was not
the
case with seti classic or BOINC when they first came out and I began to
run them. I could shut down windows/computer normally. Help Please. Plll
450, 256 RAM, broadband cable 4megs, and BOINC has access through
Firewall.
Thanks Rick.
Hi,
(I have four Win98 towers, hiding in closet, doing nothing except file
serving and crunching for Boinc.)
The "Boinc Manager Not Responding" Win98 annoyance at shutdown is one of the
long-standing issues between Win98 and Boinc.
As f/george mentioned, it can be circumvented with a .pif
http://www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/default.zip
(Unzip it in /windows)
Explained at:
http://www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/Download_and_Installation.htm
(Midway through page. Ignore all the "SETI Driver" stuff. That was for the
old Seti Classic, not BOINC. The .pif, however, works with both Classic and
Boinc. It did the Boinc shutdown annoyance with all four of my Win98's.)
Cheers,
Eric
