Question: So, if one "joins" a team, do their accumulated points get
merged to the group then?
Just wondering as have been with this SETI deal since 1999. I had two
computers running the program, but the one I chose to activate with
BOINC (also forgot my set classic password for my personal mainly
used account) since reading this post barely has much on it. I ran
it at work only and only occasionally would recall to fire it up.
Anyway, I found the UMTSF team and wondered what to do next. :)
First you sign on to your Boinc account (we each have a web page in
this brave new world) and somehow you choose our group on the
settings page and that will be you signed up. I'm not sure precisely
how this is done as I was signed on to the group when I created it.
They have gone out of their way to make things easy so you shouldn't
have any trouble. So long as I'm not alone I'm happy.
Well, you should be quite happy now.., I just joined the UMTSF team! :)
Easy as.., hmm.., nothing is usually easy for me.., but this was! :-P
Thanks for joining Arthropoid. All we need is for some of the groups
big hitters to show there faces and we should be able to get this group
rocking.
I know Sam is still around and will probably join when he gets his new
home sorted out.
Now who else is out there .....
btw and FYI it's: A*N*thropoid (human-like) not A*R*thropoid <smile>
No insult intended. My lousy short term memory has got me into worse
and also funnier scrapes.
None (offense) taken. <g> I always assume the best when it comes to text
communications. Sadly, I have witnessed many "flame wars" resulting from
folks assuming the worst. <g>
I believe I was the one who took this thread off the crosspost to atf as
had been at one point. Feel free to re-direct this there if you think
they may have just missed that message (vs. chose to ignore).
We might make a convert but they never seem to discuss Seti so I'm not
sure how serious they are about it. Seeing as it takes up a couple of
my hours a week maintaining it, it is a strong concern for me. I'll
crosspost this to alt.sci.seti to fill you in on some of the new
protocols for counting WUs and other useful stuff.
I'll put a word into a couple of friends of mine who also are SETI
"crunchers" to come here to check this post out and perhaps get a few
more folks to join UMTSF (I doubt they are "big hitters" but every
little bit (or byte) counts, right?).
Well think of it as number crunching for Farscape. The U in UMTSF
stands for UK but don't let that put you off
(uk.media.tv.sci-fi.farscape). The group had almost as many Americans in
it as ATF has British refugees from UMTSF.
Right. And the two friends I am contacting to suggest teaming up with UMTSF
are also fellow Farscape fans.
BTW we now have 400 units or thereabouts. Units are cobblestones so
they are not the same as a WU. They ensure if you have a slow machine
you get more credit for crunching a WU. Also you get less credit for
crunching a 10 min WU. I'd really like to know what the formula for
calculating them is, if anyone in ASS - sorry :*) - is forthcoming.
