If I may put a PS here at the top of the page so it won't go unnoticed,
what happends to a WU if you miss a deadline?
If 3 good results have been returned, the deleters will have cleaned up
at the deadline so your result will be ignored. If one of the others had
a problem, the work may have been sent later to additional participants
so the effective deadline may be later than you know.
... The only difference with
Boinc is that sometimes dialup requests freeze Boinc when the system is
not attended and effectively the system idles until I have the
opportunity to fix it. If somebody knows how I can disable DUN so that
it only responds to dial on demand I would very much like to hear.
BOINC has a setting which keeps it from trying to connect. In the 4.45
Boinc Manager, it's on the File menu as "Disable BOINC Network Access".
I keep that checked most of the time, uncheck it when I'm online and
want to give BOINC time to upload, download, and report.
The autodial settings location for DUN seem to vary slightly depending
on which version of DUN you have. On my Win98SE system, they're on the
"Connections" tab of the "Internet Options" Control Panel applet. On
my Win95 system, the "AutoDial" tab of the "Internet" Control Panel
applet. I keep autodial disabled and make connection using NetLaunch.
