ACTUALLY it was mentioned to them early on but they had already

f/fgeorge,

I have to say (in what I am shocked to discover is my first post this group
since December 2002!) that on the whole I tend to agree with Wayne Brown.

New-fangled features, bells and whistles just isn't the point.

SETI @ home "classic" "just works"(TM)? so ANY changes, especially on a
large farm, are not welcomed.

But the main point is BOINC ~ BONK = UK colloquialism for s3x. As I don't
want to make this into an over 18's only newsgroup, I will say no more :-^

However, to balance this point of view, I would like to make the following
points:

1) Wayne Brown's sig includes the line "When your tail's in a crack..." Do
you (or indeed does Wayne?) know what any of the several possible meaning
are, for the UK colloquialism "crack"?

2) My main reason for not switching from SETI @ home "classic" to BOINC
(apart from the name...) is the fact that it requires ALL PC's to have
direct internet access, which, with a family of two young (i.e. < 10 y.o.)
boys, I am not prepared to give them.

3) I notice that Wayne has indicated a preference for GIMPS. I wonder
whether Wayne knows what the term "GIMP" means in the UK? To give you a
clue, there are specialist (often mail-order) stores which sell gimp masks.
Apparently. Not my cup of tea, but then they do say it takes all sorts. :-)

I have 23 computers in my home ALL with internet access! I have had a
computer in my son's bedrooms since they were in middle school. I
TRUST my kids, and keep track of their activities. I even put software
on one kids machine because I was wondering if maybe he wasn't
behaving...turns out he was behaving! One son let a friend use his
computer and the friend went to some sex sites, my son was not allowed
to use the computer for a week. I checked the times and my son was
with me at the times when the sex sites were accessed, his friend did
it because he knew he would be caught at home. I not only punished my
son, I called the other kids parents and they punished him!!!
I believe that trust and letting kids try and fail and then learn from
their mistakes makes them a better person. As I said I put Spector
software on one kids computer becasue I wondered. Spector logs
keystrokes and even takes screen shots at periodic intervals. If you
have a fast enough computer, which they do/did, the user will never
even know it is happenning!
My oldest is now in his 3rd year of College and gets A's and B's. My
youngest is still in High School and gets A's and B's. I only have two
kids.
BUT as I stated before Seti and Boinc are volunteer projects, no one
is forcing us to do any work. If you make different choices than I do,
that is proof we are not clones.
