I didn't know that. What's an IIRC? I'm on broadband and the
communications tend to take care of themselves.
We should mention that partial results are returned, as frequently as you
set your "Preferences." Certainly, uploads and downloads happen -- in my
case -- more often than once every 60 days. I have my preferences set for
approximately every 24 hours.
The feedback regarding work-unit progress isn't as artistic as with Classic
SETI. No certificates. If you go to the Climate-Prediction website to see
your User Stats, the readout is quite plain but undecipherable.
The client software keeps some basic stats on your progress, and can display
graphs of Total Progress or Average returns over the last month or so. After
running ClimatePrediction.net for a couple of months, the Average graph
tends to flatten out, and the only changes are dips when progress is
interrupted, which is not particularly exciting. The Total Progress graph
tends to look like an ever-increasing diagonal line with small plateaus that
represent interrupted progress. If I want to update my graphs, I can
initiate an upload.
You can join a team and watch your progress relative to the other team
members. Whip 'em good.
There is still confusion about which forum to use for discussing
Boinc-ClimatePrediction issues. There are a few minor forums; they need to
consolidate. Until they consolodate, users have to learn to differentiate
between Boinc questions and ClimatePredication questions, for choosing the
proper forum. Certainly, they have nothing to match alt.sci.seti in its
heyday.
Best luck,
