If you look on the SETI@Home "classic" page you'll see:

"On December 15, 2005, after 6 years of operation, this project will
shut down.

When I look on the SETI@Home "classic" page, I see no such thing.
Surely it would be cleverer and more courteous to post that information
somewhere where its likely to be visible to Classic users.

The Classic page is here: http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/
if you look in the right hand column under "News" it is the top item!!
It says it was posted 15 Nov, you posted your note on the 19th, maybe
you missed it.

The top news item I see ‹ in any browser on any machine, even after
clearing the caches ‹ is the Jun 21 entry about turning off the ability
to create new classic accounts. Maybe my ISP's caching an old copy of
the page.

This is what you are missing....

Thanks for everyone's help on this. It did turn out to be a Web cache
thing after all. As soon as I switched out my ISP's cache and hit the
"reload" button, the new item immediately became visible. But it's
still not there today when I reconnect via the cache....

The end of Classic is sad news. There'll be nothing left for my old
4400 to do in its retirement. :-(
