why does BOINC go BLANK?

I have just switched frrom Seti@home to Boinc.

On the general preferences page I have the following.
Do work while computer is in use? yes
Do work only after computer is idle for - (doesn't apply?)
Do work only between the hours of? (no restriction)
Leave applications in memory while preempted? no
Switch between applications every : 60 min (but I only do Seti work)
Use no more than 2 GB (50 GB was default ha ha ....)
You missed a couple of settings here and they could be the key
these are mine and mine works fine:
Use no more than 5 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free
Use no more than 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory

The use no more 2 gb of disk space could be a problem if you are
trying to cache 10 days worth of units. I have my cache set at 4 days.

The leave at least .1 gb free is not listed in yours, it could be set
too high and under Boinc you would have no room if it downloaded the
units. MOST of my machines are crunchers ONLY, the ones that I use for
daily stuff have tons of hard drive space. One even has three 250 gig
drives and an 80 gig drive in it.

The use no more than 50% of total disk space is again missing from
your list but could also be a problem because if you don't have lots
of space on the drive you should have small numbers. Again check for
free space on the drive that Boinc is installed on.

The write to disk every 60 seconds I think is the default and should
have no effect on your problem.

The use no more than 75% of total virtual memory again is not listed
by you and could also be a problem if you are short of hard drive
space. Again the C: drive is normally where this resides, if it is
close to being full this could be part of the problem.
