I *used* to run Seti v3.08, but now I get a popup telling me its
shutting down. I have downloaded Bionic (Whatever that is) and
"attached to a project" (whatever that means) using the URL given to
me.

So having done that - now what do I do? I'm still running Seti 3.08
and I still get the popup. Bionic gives me a screen with stuff on it
which means absolutely nothing to me.
Am I still running it?
Was I supposed to delete original Seti?
Is this Bionic supposed to do something?
Is it a case of having found ETI and there is no need for anyone to
run Seti anymore?
Or is it a case of someone not bothering to explain properly how and
why this is happening?
Maybe after seven years of Seti, it's not worth the effort of
allowing "strange" and unfriendly software on my system anymore?

Is the BOINC, notice the spelling, icon in the bottom right hand tray?
If so double click it and then click on the "work" tab. This should
say that a unit is "running". If it does then stop Classic, they will
interfere with each other and neither will work very well. Do NOT run
them at the same time. If there is no "running" work unit in the
"work" tab then come back here and post what the error messages are in
the "messages" tab.

They plan to finally kill off Classic in a couple of weeks. And this time I
really think they mean it :-)
