Hello Dick !

Just turned to BOINC. My (main) Linux box runs okay whithout problem. But
a secondary box that I rarely use which runs W2K with only 64 Mb of memory
won't run BOINC. It has run seti for several years, but now it refuses,
BOINC telling me it is just short a few bites of memory. Nonsense, seti
has always run on it, at about 1 wu per day.
Boinc and the seti app needs more memory, than the classic. Boinc needs
6 to 8 MB, and the seti app 20 to 25 MB of memory.
The OS needs some memory for, too.
If your system is running out of memory, what could be happen with to
less memory, it will page out memory blocks to the (swap)disk, which
decreases Performance drasticly.
Also some projects had a lot of problems with systems with to less
memory, and set the memory requirements to a value, which don't cause
any problems for there.
How do I bypass this stupid error?
The next seti app (seti enhanced) with a lot of more science computing
is in the beta test in the moment, and will released in some month ago.
It needs on my system 70 MB of memory. But, it is in development in the
moment, and it could also happen, that the memory requierments get less
than in the beta.
I recommend you, add more memory in your system. 64/128 or 256 MB more
memory are not so expensive, and it will increase the performance of
your system.
