Me? Annoyed?
Yes, but not by the possibility that boinc will supplant rather
than supplement the direct running of setiathome. It is by the
attitude that seti have displayed for a few years now -- the
attitude that Johan alludes to above. The attitude that, for every
one of us who may stop doing seti, there are dozens, hundreds,
possibly thousands, who will do so, no questions asked -- so it's
their way or the highway for the rest of us.
What Attitude?!
The only "Attitude" I've seen recently is that from a very few but
hugely Big Heated individuals whom seem to believe that this planet
revolves for them and them alone! Oh, and that they don't need to do any
reading around to find out what's happening because volunteer kindly
souls will personally spoon feed them all their answers.
GET REAL!!!
Your contributions are indeed valued. Also note that s@h in its various
forms is a volunteer project. A very popular and successful project that
continues to develop.
Stay buried lamenting the past if you wish.
The rest of us are racing forwards. The various glitches with Boinc and
Boinc-s@h can be expected and more are expected. s@h-classic IS PART OF
THE SAME PROJECT and has had a very good run. There's now new stuff to try.
And if you want to see some attitude, well, see what shit some of you
self righteous types should be suffering instead:

December 12, 2005: Not that this has much to do with anything, or aimed
at anybody in particular, but in general I think it should be mandatory
that everybody be forced to work minimum wage jobs for several years,
preferably in the food service industry, and dealing with the general
public. I have. You know.. jobs where you do the work nobody else wants
to, where you know more about how things work than the managers who make
five times your salary, and complete strangers treat you like dirt. I
think that would vastly improve society as a whole. Just a thought.
Anyway...
December 13, 2005: Ugh. What a long weekend. Spent 36 hours away from a
computer (playing a hilarious couple of gigs in LA) knowing full well
the entire SETI@home community was in a world of pain and nothing would
get done until we were all back in the office on Monday. But then, like
always, we fixed everything, breathed a sigh of temporary relief and got
back to work.

Now, where is your big project that you've put together for yourself?
Sorry, but you're yet another of the very few selfish types to vent bad
air... I'm very ready to strike a match... (Boooom! :-) )
Special note: There is NOONE at Berkeley available for PR work. I'd
rather they were able to get on with some science rather than humour a
few whingers.
Meanwhile, the majority of us seem to think that s@h is a very
worthwhile project run by some very hardworking and dedicated expert
scientists. And run very well considering the working environment!
Happy crunchin',
Martin
