Hmm, can you successfully download wu, but not the *.exe-files?
If so, you can use the "Anonymous platform"-mechanism.
By using this method the *.exe will never be upgraded, only your
self-compiled version is being used.
The optimized seti-applications is using this method, by users
downloading optimized seti-application, unzipping (if windows), and
putting the two files setiathome_4.11_windows_intelx86.exe and
app_info.xml under
boinc-dir\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\
If you don't want to rely on someone else's optimized compilation and
don't want to build your own version, but instead use the official
SETI@Home-version, download on one computer, and afterwards copy *.exe
to your installs and generate your app_info.xml looking something
like:
<app_info>
<app>
<name>setiathome</name>
</app>
<file_info>setiathome_4.18_windows_intelx86.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome</app_name>
<version_num>418</version_num>
<file_ref>setiathome_4.18_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>
