So what is with all the angst?

Yes, some people are emotionally opposed to any form of change. Their work units are just
as vital as an other cruncher's. Should SETI Classic be continued for the sake of those
who have trouble with change? Absolutely not! But, if such crunchers are significant to
SETI, and considering the number of such crunchers, I think SETI might have handled the
switch a bit more diplomatically. How specifically? I don't know. I didn't switch, until
it appeared I had no choice. With a lesser interest in science and ET, I might have just
bailed out.
Yes, I enjoyed my routine with SETI Classic and SETI Driver. Now, I'm begriming to enjoy
BOINC.
Yes, missed stats goals have troubled at least a few people. Personally, I have more
important things to fret about--and some of those things would seem utterly frivolous to
some of the people who had stats goals unrealized. :-) For a lot of people who were
proud of their WU, whether it was 25 or 25K, starting at zero registers as a loss. One
goes from having a respectable total, to being another mediocre beginner.

Happily crunching.

Thanks for your positive feedback.
And yes, my question was Socratic/rhetorical. Still good to get an
alternate opinion.
I agree that the major part of the angst for some is their pride in
amassing a huge WU count and to then feel bombed back to zero to being a
raw newbie with Boinc-s@h.
But they are not reduced to zero... They still have bragging rights to
their s@h-classic count for posterity!

for one small part typical of the credits combustions.
Looks like for some there always was going to be a no-win crunch!
Perhaps we should have an annual reset-all-scores-to-ZERO to avoid such
a huge build up of angst and hate in the future...
Happy crunchin',
(It's all good science: Space, ET, and life on Earth!)
