as a power user i liked the command line version
since it was new/beta-ish at the time i thought i'd get used to it, the server side reporting is so much better than classic

since then i'v been learning linux, the linux version is so much nicer than the windows one (as it's command line)

I'll agree on those counts.

I've never seen the Windows version, and I gave the Boinc manager gui a quick look for version 5.2.14. It does look a little clunky and is x6 the code size of the command line service. But then, the display tools used have been chosen for cross-platform compatibility and are a compromise.

Any volunteers to tidy up the look?

And then there's BoincView and others... If they can take over the display duties from Boinc manager, then that will be great to let user's program what they want for themselves, and to let the Berkeley devs concentrate on the core science work.

to an end user used to classic i can easy see how it would annoy them, it did me at the time somewhat

I had a very nice automated system for both Windows and Linux for s@h-classic. It was a bit of a chore to customise how I wanted to run Boinc on this Linux system, but it was easily done. A few tweaks later and it is "set-and-forget" and looks after itself very well. Full credit to Berkeley and also JM7 for the Boinc scheduler.

The change-over cost a little time and was a small chore, but I can do very much more with Boinc than ever was possible with s@h-classic alone.

(And Linux is a good fast clean idea ;-) )

Happy crunchin',
