Resetting not only dumps ALL the workunits you have in your cache, as
you said, but it ALSO dumps any credits you would have gotten for
crunching those units. Also any units you have already crunched are
dumped! No credit will be forthcoming for those either. You are not
saving anything by resetting.
Moreover it delays the achievement of quorum for granting credit to
the other users who were assigned the same work.
That COULD be true but is getting less and less to be true. Berkeley
is actually getting back somewhere in the 80% to 90% returns on ALL
FOUR workunits they are sending out. Only three units are required for
a quorum, the 4th unit was sent out because soooo many people wern't
returning one of the units. They are actually thinking of dropping it
back to them sending out only three units.
I should have been more clear. I only reset a project when I stop
getting work units, and there is no more work in progress - in other
words the folder is empty, and not functioning anymore.
By the way, when the project is reset, the binaries are also replaced,
so I don't do it unless things have flatlined. It's happened to me maybe
three times, on two computers, since I switched to boinc last April.
