Yes, I second the getting rid of Norton.  It is a resource hog
worse than most things I have seen.

I use AVG and Zone Alarm (both free) and have zero troubles with
BOINC.

As for the startup delay programs, do a google search with keywords
startup delay freeware and don't use quotes and you will find some
choices.
