One thing I notice among SETI people and astronomy types, is what
appears to me, to be a strong bias against any belief that other
intelligences have visited this planet. I suspect that at least some
of that was the result of Carl Sagon's influence.
I once saw Carl Sagan on a TV interview where they ask him why he didn't
believe in alien visitation. He said that until there's _physical_ evidence
of such visitations, there's no reason to believe. I have to agree with
that.
And yet, faced with exactly the same dirth of physical evidence, we
presume the liklihood that other intelligent life exists in the
universe.
I am not suggesting that there is physical proof that this planet has
been visited by extraterrestial civilizations - only that we should
not exclude the possibility - as most of the Astronomy/SETI crowd has
done.
