Actually, the connection itself was fiber. It was bundled in with some
copper cable; the thieves just cut through everything to haul it out
faster. The site of the theft was also hilly terrain, and the repairs
were delayed further by rain.

Fortunantly, SETI Queue was holding a weeks worth of WU for me...

I haven't heard if the thieves were ever caught.
