Martin, I know you're the everlasting (and in my eyes fanatic) defender of SETI,

A little :-)

... everyone
has the right to their own opinions ...

Very much so.

But please note that it is not the University of Berkeley giving the
funding (as suggested in your post). They are paid by external funding
for whatever research. Also I believe, the usual channels of science
funding are blocked due to political reasons regardless of any science
merit. So...

Not so simple.

And of course you are welcome to your opinion.

Martin

Ok, so if the S@H project is not a scientific project under Berkeley, then what is it?
A non-scientific mumbo-jumbo for a bunch of enthusiasts hoping to see E.T. live?
Because if it's not an official Berkeley research project, then I can't understand how
they can perform their job under Berkeley's wings?

This is rather important not only to me I beleive. There are other "true" research
projects within BOINC that in such case would benefit considerably more from our
participation.

So, how legitimate is S@H? Is it research in the true scientific sense or is it just a
Hillbilly ride for the fun of it?
