What don't you like about Boinc other than that it is "new" and has more

The only reason I stopped running SETI@home was (and still is) the fact that
the name sounds like a euphemism for a sexual act.

Yes, it is a deliberately 'slightly controversial' name to sex things up a little. Very good for getting more people interested.

There are far far worse namings in programming languages in general and in the comments in programs. So much so that some religious puritan tried legal action to try to get it all cleaned up...!

A stupid name is a stupid name.  A US project that is so narrow minded that
it forgets that there is a whole wide world out here that does not
necessarily speak exactly the same language does not deserve any support

Cross-language translation is always difficult. Eg The very famous Nova car in Spanish speaking countries... Was that good or bad publicity? Certainly made for a very well publicised bit of fun... Free advertising!

(Nova can mean an exploding star, or wow! In Spanish, it means "No Go", doesn't start!!)

[...]
marketed it under the name of "Cod Pieces".  I kid you not.

Certain Gents in medieval England would be very proud to buy such attire!

For those that do not understand this example, a quick google will help:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cod+pieces

Regardless of the name and politics and funding, the science is still very good and sound and the project is valuable in multiple ways.

What's in a name?

Happy crunchin',
and keep searchin',
Martin
