Need some help here....
Since seti@home changed to the new BOINC system, my computer has yet to
start processing a single new work unit. All the instructions seem to
revolve around installing BOINC, but there's nothing at all about how to
make it start processing seti work units. There must be thousands of
former
users who have given up by now, so I don't think the seti people have
thought it through very well.
And of course they make it impossible to ask anyone how to use it by
prohibiting first time BOINC users from using the message board
(something
about needing credit?) and not providing any contact email address.
It's as if the seti@home people don't want users to process any new work
units. I processed 588 units up to the changeover, nearly a year ago
now,
then have been stuck ever since, yet to start #589.
So, before I give up completely, I thought I would try here, on good 'ol
usenet.
Can anyone here help me? How I do I receive a new work unit, and start
processing it?
Geoff.
Hello Geoff,
I'm no expert but hope this will help. I presume you had previously
crunched Seti 'Classic'.
Have you downloaded and installed the Boinc programme?
Item 2 at
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
After installing this program, you will be asked to attach to a project.
Continue and select to create account as an existing user (or words to that
effect).
The url required for attaching seti to boinc is:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
You will need to supply your email address & pw or your account (?) number.
Nick.
