Need some help here....
Since seti@home changed to the new BOINC system, my computer has yet to
start processing a single new work unit. All the instructions seem to
revolve around installing BOINC, but there's nothing at all about how to
make it start processing seti work units. There must be thousands of former
users who have given up by now, so I don't think the seti people have
thought it through very well.
And of course they make it impossible to ask anyone how to use it by
prohibiting first time BOINC users from using the message board (something
about needing credit?) and not providing any contact email address.
It's as if the seti@home people don't want users to process any new work
units. I processed 588 units up to the changeover, nearly a year ago now,
then have been stuck ever since, yet to start #589.
So, before I give up completely, I thought I would try here, on good 'ol
usenet.
Can anyone here help me? How I do I receive a new work unit, and start
processing it?
Geoff.
UMMM there are a couple of things you need to know...
1st) you CAN post without credit, just not to anything but the
"Questions and Answers" sections:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_help_desk.php
2nd) There ARE email addresses posted in the Boinc web pages for all
to see: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/contact.php
They just encourage people to use the forums because they, the people
whose emails you will find on that page, are BUSY! The forums
questions are answered by users that have some ideas about the answers
to the questions. YES there ARE "official" people that answer
questions in the forums, NO it is not part of their "job description".
There are only 3 paid people in Seti, ALL the rest are volunteers.
I think the others that have also answered your question have pointed
out the specifics of what to do.
