You may be able to reinstall and keep existing programs.
Reinstall to the same directory where Windows is installed now.

Have tried the various suggestions but to no avail.
Today reinstalled XP Pro (upgrade, not clean install, thus preserving 
existing settings/progs etc) and HT is now working correctly
