Ok, thanks for the help. The Boinc software is installed, and it shows an
item currently 41.97% processed, and it's still ticking over, so presumably
it's working.

This will probably slow down as the computer adjusts itself to the way
Boinc crunches each unit. Classic did the same thing, fast i nthe
beginning and then slower towards the middle and then speeds back up
near the end. Yes you will also see that the unit has reached 100% but
is still crunching, this is due to rounding and in actuallity you are
not at 100% but are in fact in the 99.5????% range.

However, how do I see any details? There used to be a colourful graphic
showing the progress of the current work. I can't seem to bring that up, or
even find out how many work units have been processed, or any other details.
Most of the options in the Boinc Manager programme do nothing when clicked
on.

Double click the icon and then click on the work tab, then click on a
unit that is running. On the left should be show grpahics, click it.
Sometimes this is greyed out, this is because of the way it was
installed and will not work.
In Boinc no total number of workunits is kept, credits are granted
absed o nthe amount of work your computer does on each unit. Some
units take MUCH longer than others. Remember this is now a
multi-project program, Seti units are coming that will take upto 10
times as long to crunch. You will get more credits for them but since
those units take longer it is not fair to only give you one credit
while someone gets the short units and also gets one credit. The
Climate Predition units can take upto 6 months to crunch one unit!
That would hardly be fair to also give out only 1 credit.

I also still have zero credit, even though I've previously processed 588
work units.

If you signed up using your old account info this will come, if you
signed up using a new account this will never show up. It is just a
line and is important to some but not really worth much. The credits
in Boinc are done differently so everyone starts with zero. Your
Classic credits, as I said, are on a line in your profile but not used
for anything.
The Boinc Wiki is very helpful and will answer a ton of other
questions that come up, it is located here:

It is also searchable.
Welcome to Boinc!!!
