Then Knoppix supposedly has a distro that has Boinc built in. I tried
to find it once but could not, you may have better luck. Knoppix can
run off a cd. If you do it that way it will use the hard drive as swap

Puppy Linux is mentioned. There's also DSL (Damned Small Linux).
Take your pick and add Boinc.
Some of the s@h teams must have their own distros already prepared for
this...
(Note: USB Flash memory has a very limited lifetime for memory writes.
You can read from it as many times as you wish, but it can only survive
a few thousands of
/writes/. Make sure that the Boinc work directories
are in a ramfs in the system RAM or on the HDD.)
