Here is a link to floppy based distros. I do not think Boinc will run

store its workunits.

Then Knoppix supposedly has a distro that has Boinc built in. I tried
to find it once but could not, you may have better luck. Knoppix can
run off a cd. If you do it that way it will use the hard drive as swap

Take a look at these two forum threads:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=29528
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=20408

Puppy Linux is mentioned. There's also DSL (Damned Small Linux).

Take your pick and add Boinc.

Some of the s@h teams must have their own distros already prepared for this...

(Note: USB Flash memory has a very limited lifetime for memory writes. You can read from it as many times as you wish, but it can only survive a few thousands of /writes/. Make sure that the Boinc work directories are in a ramfs in the system RAM or on the HDD.)

Also take a look on here:

for a boinc-specific "How-to" on how to set up Boinc and Linux on a diskless farm of computers.

Happy crunchin',
