Looks like my 1.4 GHz Celeron is going to take 3300 hours to complete a "Sulfur" work unit.  You must have a 1.5 GHz Pentium.

They gave me a year to complete the work unit.  Should take less than half a year.  No reason not to complete it.  I think I'll make that my deadline to build a 3 GHz dual core, 2 MB cache x 2.  Newegg sells the microprocessor for $200, without hyperthreading.  Add hyperthreading, and the uP goes up to $1000.  See if I can get the new computer running before the present work unit completes.

Last I heard, you should be able to log into your account on the ClimatePrediction (CP) website, and allocate your desired percentages to your selected projects.  Boinc does other things too, last I heard.  Boinc may have determined that your CP project was running behind, and devoted processor power to it to catch it up.  That's probably what your last computer-hijacking was about.

When I had the choice, I devoted my lowly processor to CP, and gave up SETI. Seemed like more of a realistic prioritization.

I've also been confused by the BBC thing.  OK the different branding, etc. I guess they never heard the one about, "... It doesn't matter who gets the credit, as long as the work gets done."

It's an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+, but, only 512 Mb of RAM which is in two sticks and not correctly matched so I need to get 1G that's matched.

I found the setting via Boinc settings to proportion the different projects CPU share.  All are set at 100 by default so two set at 100 gives you 50% each which means with other settings that SETI works for one hour then (CP) works for the next hour etc..

I have a feeling the BBC left out any details or Attaching via URL and made it too easy for people to download their branded Boinc is to do with the people who it appeals to via the BBC...young kids, school projects etc...make it easy to install, all in one BBC reassuring package.

SETI's just finished a WU and hasn't downloaded any more.  Perhaps it thinks I still have that work unit in my  BBC Boinc which is uninstalled and deleted!
