... is there just more crunching going on?

I normally pay very little mind to Boinc, other than just allowing it to
keep on doing it's thing, but just noticed that all my computers (Win
and
Linux) are now crunching "setiathome_enhanced" WU's for the last few
weeks.

Completion time for the "setiathome_enhanced" WU's is much longer than
what they were all crunching before.

Just curious...

Er, after reading another post about the same thing, I looked at some of
the
logs and found that most of "setiathome_enhanced" completion times were
actually pretty close to what they were before -- but there were also
quite
a few that took a very long time...

The enhanced units hsould be taking MUCH longer, as a general rule.
The reason is because the software is doing a MUCH mroe indepth look
of signals. We have already procesed "the" unit, so we will probably
have to do all the units over again too. Just in case you start LOTS
of older units. There is a batch coming thru now but they are ones
that had alot of noise in them when first checked, very superficially,
and were not ever evaluated by Classic.

Thats cool. I was just curious if "enhanced" meant there was more "going on
under the hood" and hence the longer crunches. :-)

Weeks go by these days before I even look at what Boinc on my computers are
up to. I just let 'em run...

Well, I take that back, weeks go by on the Linux computers before I check on
Boinc. With the Windows computers, Boinc gets a quick glance once a week
after their ritual reboots. :-)

Cheers,
Eric
