On the net i set my seti@home preferences to "on copmuters with more
than
1
cpu use at most 2 cpu's"
Can i override that for one particular machine? I have a HT P4 that runs
at
74C if i let both threads crunch. I want to reduce that 1 machine to
using
1 Thread and let my other two machines run as normal (using both
threads).
Thanks
Eric
Hi,
You don't have to do anything on the Boinc website (network) side.
Simply set the affinity for Boinc in that particular machine to only use
one
processor.
Win: Task Manager -> Processes -> (Right Click) Set Affinity
I believe you will find this is only a temporary setting. It should
only last as long as the current unit is processing and then when the
next unit starts it should use all the cpus available again.
The home, work, school suggeestion is a long lasting solution.
Ah, I wasn't aware of that...
BTW: Is there any particular reason why number of CPU selection is on the
boinc servers' side?
Seems like this is something that would make more sense to be on the clients
themselves. Being on the service side, does this just make the server
people lives easier?
Cheers,
Eric
