does boinc really have to randomly do benchmarks, it does sort of take over 
your computer for some vital seconds :)
(it's not normaly a problem, but that one was a bit close for confort hehe)
no, i really don't want to be bothered by boinc, i just want it to sit in 
the background and chew on the spare cpu time thanks 

From at least version 5.4.2 forward if you right click on the Boinc
icon, down by the time, you can click on the snooze button. This stops
Boinc from crunching, and presumably benchmarking, for about 2 hours.
Boinc then atuo resumes.
