I've looked through here, through the Boinc forums, and Googled, but I
can't find any solutions to this problem:
I've been running Boinc for months without issues until I tried out
the Windows Vista previews. Boinc seems to run fine except that it
won't stop processing work units, nor unload from memory when I'm
active on the computer.
I double checked the preferences and they are correctly set to run
only when the computer is idle. But for some reason it refuses to stop
running. Boinc is version 5.4.11, the current release.
This isn't a problem for my work computers where they're not under
heavy loads, but at home I do a lot of testing and and I really need
to free up all resources and memory when evaluating some intense
programs.
Has anyone else had a problem with Boinc and Vista like this?
Hi,
I have another computer here that I've also been playing around with Vista
in.
(Its also running Boinc, as a service.)
Its set to always run Boinc, but I just KVC'd over to set Boinc (and also
online SETI settings) appropriately to see if Boinc would suspend the SETI
clients (its a dual Pentium) while in use. I even restarted the Boinc
service, after updating, for good measure.
I see the same behavior as you do: Boinc doesn't suspend the SETI clients
after coming out of idle.
I'm sure it'll be fixed. Its probably a Vista, not Boinc, problem anyway.
Vista still has lots of issues...
(FWIW: That computer is running Vista Beta2, Build 5384.)
BTW: Do you have Aero Glass working? I tried to get it up and going, but I
don't think the video card in that computer will do it. Oh well.
Cheers,
Eric
