Has anyone else had a problem with Boinc and Vista like this?
I have another computer here that I've also been playing around with
Vista in. (Its also running Boinc, as a service.)
Its set to always run Boinc, but I just KVC'd over to set Boinc (and
also online SETI settings) appropriately to see if Boinc would
suspend the SETI clients (its a dual Pentium) while in use. I even
restarted the Boinc service, after updating, for good measure.
I see the same behavior as you do: Boinc doesn't suspend the SETI
clients after coming out of idle.
I'm sure it'll be fixed. Its probably a Vista, not Boinc, problem
anyway. Vista still has lots of issues...
I'm running an older version of Boinc (5.2.13?) on the work computers,
so I don't know if the current version is the problem or if it's
Vista.
Either way, I've removed Boinc from this machine - I need it free of
extra processes. So no more crunching on this puppy until I get it
sorted out.
:-(
(FWIW: That computer is running Vista Beta2, Build 5384.)
I'm on Vista RC1 5600...a big improvement over Beta2. Most programs
run just fine now, whereas with Beta2 I couldn't get half of my
software to run at all. Kinda hard to test an OS if you can't run
anything.
:-)
BTW: Do you have Aero Glass working? I tried to get it up and
going, but I don't think the video card in that computer will do it.
Oh well.
Yes Aero Glass is working here.
Aero doesn't need as much as some people think - any decent card with
proper drivers, DirectX 9, and 64megs of video memory should run it,
although 128megs is probably faster and smoother. I used Beta2 on a
machine with an older Geforce 6600 and 128megs just fine. Compared to
this speedy machine I'm on now, I doubt I could tell the difference.
