You'll get a far better - and more informed - response there than here.
Most of the posts to this NG (like many others) are now spam. Those
boards are moderated and you have to be a registered SETI user to post
there.

I would add to that that the posts by the sp0rgers and nutbags are the
other spoilers. Because there is currenly no way to remove the nutbag
posts in un-moderated groups, people get turned off. I've almost
ditched a few times, the only thing that keeps me coming back is the
global reach of these groups, the others are limited to their smaller
sets of users (i.e.yahoo users, BOINC/seti@home users etc.) If you've
visited sci.astro.seti or other NG's lately, it's pretty quiet (even
the kooks have gotten quiet.) I have recently decided to increase my
posting levels there with the hopes of stimulating on-topic
conversation with the group subscribers. Recent mention of the
sci.astro.seti NG in the March Astronomy Magazine and the significant
recent change in google groups (which makes it more contemporary and
perhaps a nicer interface) may also have an impact. It's up to us!
I'm probably over-optimistic, but then again, nobody could accuse a
SETI fan of being under-optimistic :^)
