Unfortunately, as I mentioned upthread, the data for sign-up dates after
sometimes in early 2002 seem to have gone missing from that archive,
including those for May 16, 2003. But BOINCstats shows 126 SETI/BOINC
users in this registration class:

I think it is a shame there are so many people whining. Sure
some people
didn't reach some goals, but remember the whole project is about
the science
not massaging Egos and personal goals. The goal is to find ET. I
'm gonna give
my machines a rest (it's so tranquil now the fans have spun
down!) and then
switch to BOINC and carry on the search for those little green
dudes!
I'm just grateful to Berkeley for such a cool project and for
keeping classic
alive as long as it was. Sciences moves on people, and so should
we.

sign up date. Based on the progress I was making while the class

being refreshed daily I think I may have moved into 21st place.
Team standing
was 4th last time I looked.
It's been a eventful trip this last 6+ years and I'm glad I didn
't miss any of
it. I've met some really terrific people here that I'll never
forget. Shutting
down my systems here for a while to give them a rest and maybe I
might make it
back over to boinc sometime in the future. For now, I think we,

never quite made the 98% I was hoping for but was delighted to
return home
earlier than expected, switch on pc and find SETI Classic
running in full
operation for a full day prior to the final WU being sent in. I
am so
thankful that Seti Classic finished at full function otherwise
it would have
been a shame to have ended it still crippled.

It's been a great 17 months. I am most proud of being part of
the the last

Watching the final push for certificates and goals. The help
that was offered
and accepted to reach those goals was touching. Reaching a high

nice, being part of the search for ET is something much more.

I am just SOOOOOOOO *very glad it's over, Finally!!!
This cut-off date has been hanging over everyones head for
awhile and for some I
think it really brought out the worst in.....
BOINC is running very well for me, of course the SETI project is
still having a
few issues but the other projects keep my machine happily
crunching away during
SETI's issues. I wont leave the SETI Project completely since it
is the project
that introduced me to "Crunching" I am quite happy to share my
contribution to
the other science projects, after all, it IS the science that
it is all
about..right guys??
Sometimes I think people lose sight of that fact, it's sad...
Anyway, here are my final SETI classic stats, I actually began
crunching with a
pentium 400 for about a year until an electrical surge in my
house fried my
machine, it took me a couple years to build the machine I have
now due to money
troubles, otherwise my final stats would be MUCH more
impressive...
No big deal though, it isnt the stats that kept me motivated, it
was the hunt!

Despite the statement that results will be accepted for
another week, the cli proffers the message "This version of SETI@home is
obsolete." and quits. Annoyingly, I have waiting some 21 results for
mikem1@iinet.net.au that were crunched after results were no longer being
accepted, plus a further 30 for my account from crunchers not connected to
the internet. This last is annoying, because my glimpsed 99.840% has now
slipped back to 99.839%

Well, after learning how to persuade SetiHide to not lock
waiting for a fresh WU in place of that just sent, with some messing about I
was able to work through my collection which recovered the 99.840% position

I had a rank of 782nd place when my SetiQueue shut down, and I

to go on, so I consider 782nd to be my rank when Berkeley pulled
the plug. Some
people went whizzing past me at the rate of a few hundred
thousand per day, but
their methods are shameful and shouldn't count for anything.

Ignore me like the *Troll some of you accuse me to be
but...LoL...Clay had a
definite point!
I had to scratch my head and wonder WTF when I saw all these
"plea's" for help
crunching to a certain badge...Sheeeeesh!!..For what?!?!?!
Seems to me that it is much more satisfying knowing that all
your numbers are
legit and crunched my your machines alone..why cheat?...and
especially why in
the "H" would you want to cheat at something as cut and dried as
crunching radio
signal data..
Some peoples kids...
Anyway... Way to go Clay, applause and bows to one of the most
original seti
members I have observed for the 5 years I have been with the
project...
Apparantly he's "Old School"..
He did it himself..

Bob, I think you took my post the wrong way. Certainly it's more
satisfying to
know you did it all yourself than to have help from other
cruchers, but I
wasn't thinking of such assistance when I posted my comment. No
one made "a few
hundred thousand per day" by such means.
Instead, I'm talking about blatant cheating, in which someone
intentionally
resubmits the same WUs over and over again for bogus credits. To
fix the stuck
queues, Berkeley turned off the dupe checker, and some scumbags
took advantage
of that situation to hyper-inflate their stats. Shame on them!!!

This finishes all
of the WU's received before the 12/15 shutdown.

I really enjoyed my 2.7 years with SETI@home. It was fun,
plus I learned a learned a lot about optimizing computers
to crunch workunits.
I am grateful for the experiences.
I made almost all of my goals, except one (top 1,000),
but I came sooooo close. :)

daily,
and I feel like I almost know some of you.

the 25,000 certificate that I wasn't able to reach by myself
because of the two-
week "outage" of the database systems.

Sorry to be so slow posting my final stats. I was occupied with
daughters
wedding over the holidays. She married a fine young man from
Stockholm and the
real world got a little smaller for me in addition to this
electronic one.
I'd like to thank the many that helped me along the way but I'll
reserve my
sincerest appreciation for those people that I'll never meet but
seem like
friends regardless. I respectfully disagree with those that say
that this is
only about the science. It may have started out that way but I'
ll give the
camaraderie my number one slot and the fun of attempting goals a
solid number
two. After I catch up on my workload at the office I'm planning
to visit the
ezboard site.
I only have one old computer crunching BOINC and for some reason
my stats
aren't appearing with the Planetary Society group. I'm going to
give the other
computers a rest for a while.

I waited until now to post my final stats.
I wanted to see if I would make my final objective,
the top 0.25% of crunchers.
It took the Seti@home staff removing the WU counts and credits
of about 900
obvious "cheaters" that were in the top 10,000 users. But I made
it 99.756%
and it moved my Rank up a little too.
