If you are running seti@home on a quad-core under linux x86_64 can you
please post your cpu temps? (especially if you are running an optimized
seti app like AK_V8_linux64)
I trying to get a feel as to what normal cpu temps should be with 4
seti@home's running under BOINC (1 app per core)
Thanks
Eric
Running a Acer Aspire desktop with a Q6600 2.4 quad core. Seti increases
temperature by a significant amount. Temps increased to about 80c for each
core, with an overall cpu temp of about 75C. Installed three more highspeed
fans which has reduced the temp down to the 50c mark.
The problem is clearly the desktop size as such is in a small case, and
inadequate cooling in the stock machine. Even Flight simulator 10 and no
other apps, the temperature increases dramatically.
Verdict: cpu stock cooling configurations are not enough. Big cases with
lots of fans and big heatsinks would be better; indeed as already mentioned,
water cooling would be likely the way to go.
