CUDA is now running on my system. The hard part is
prying the workunits out of Berkeley. I haven't tried
running GPU and CPU workunits at the same time.
Some statistics:
2 Pre-cuda Astropulse units:
159:26
159.55
they processed simultaneously on a dual-core
for about seven days.
3 CUDA units:
#1: 2:27:01
#2: 0:47:16
#3: 2:46
not including the time waiting for Berkeley
to have workunits available.
A pleasant side-effect...
I use this computer for three non-Seti functions:
recording HD video, running VMware workstation,
and playing HD video. I only use the Nvidia card
for playing HD video, otherwise I use the built-in
ATI graphics adapter with a smaller monitor. It
happens that the ArcSoft video capture program
locks up if I start it with the CPU Seti running,
I have to suspend it first. Video capture co-exists
very well with the GPU Seti, however.
A slight inconvenience...
I don't have any tools like Process Explorer to
monitor GPU activity.
A link on physical memory limits for various Windows:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_xp
and something interesting at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb613473(VS.85).aspx
I was told that XP32 could not use more than 3GB,
and I heard elswhere that 4GB slows it down.
The above articles do not seem to support that.
The main issue with XP64 is I have had trouble
getting anti virus that supports it. I had to pay
an arm and leg for V7 of CA eTrust.
Thanks for the help with CUDA.
Dave
Great to hear that you got it working. Maybe there's hope for me after I
upgrade my machine.
On a side note; I just installed the free Avast! (
http://www.avast.com)
on my laptop running Windows 7 x64. It works great.
