The view down the street in 1999 (four years later) This view approximates the view from the driver's seat of the truck. This image is taken around 5:15 PM on 7/29, so the shadows are longer than they were during the sighting. The car parked to the left side of the road is parked the the location of CL&P pole 4154, agreed upon by the witnesses as the location of the shadow observation followed almost immediately by the observation of the object. This photo is from the first location selected by the husband as where his first observation occurred. It remains possible (though not used in the calculations) that the shadow was seen here and that the object was seen at the location further down the street. |

Shadowline A digitally edited version of the above image suggests the shadow line location on the date and time of the sighting (July 15, 1995, 2:45 PM), with the sun elevation of 60 degrees. This shadowline is approximately correct for trees near the current height. However, the trees at this site are probably 15-20 years old, and may have been only between 60 and 75% of their current height in 1995. The location of the shadowline makes it clear that the object shadow would have been visible crossing the road. |

At First Sight The view from the passenger side at the time the object shadow is first seen and shortly before the object becomes visible (pole 4154 is visible to the right). It is clear that approximately 30 - 45 degrees of sky are visible. A slightly larger area might have been visible in 1995 due to the lower height of the trees on the left at that time. The isolated house is to the right of the right edge of this image, at a 30-45 degree relative angle. The object shadow must have appeared between this position and the top of the rise (at the location of the next pole), approx 0.075 mi (400 feet) away. |

At Last Sight The view from the opposite side of the road at the location where the object was last seen. The trees in the foreground (edging the road) may have been smaller or absent at the time of the sighting. This location is approximately 400 feet past the rise and 800 feet (0.156 mi) from the first observation and 0.3 mi from the possible first shadow observation. |
