The Temporal Doorway

Temporal Doorway

5/6/2000

This image is the replacement for the original "Temporal Doorway", which was first created in the late 1980s. In those days, the best scanner available to me was a Digi-View slowscan NTSC video camera scan system, with separate filters for R,G, and B channels.

The original image was and is a work I am proud of, but I decided that it was time to see what I could do with new tools.

Canoma was used to normalize the photos of the door and the tiles, while Carrara with Tree Druid was used for the imaging. The lightning photo is one of the few images I have ever used that I did not myself produce - it came from the collection of Chuck Doswell, a photographer who has produced some brilliant lightning photos. Indeed, this is the only photo I have ever purchased specifically for an artwork. Thanks, Chuck!

A series of different attempts were made, and there may still be one or two left to try. This was the best.

Of course, the image shows the energy pent behind the doorway, and how that energy reaches out to shape the world around it. Perhaps you'll find the same energy here behind The Temporal Doorway.

I hope you enjoy it.
