The Beaver PA UFO Photo |

|
What was apparently one of the best photos showing details of the luminosity at some distance from the surface of a UFO was this photo, taken in Beaver, PA on August 8, 1965. It has now been determined, through an admission by one of the claimants to this author, that this photo is a hoax. The claimants (three youths, two of which were brothers) stated they were photographing the moon when the disk, claimed to be between forty and fifty feet in diameter, hove into view. One youth claimed to have snapped this and one other picture before the object departed vertically into the sky. The time was about 11:30 PM, and there was a faint haze and thin overcast (probably indicating high humidity). Stars are visible in the photo, so the haze was not thick. The photo was taken with a Yashika 635 using Altipan 120 (ASA 100). The lens was set to f3.5, set at infinity, and the exposure was six seconds. The haze beneath the object was claimed to be not visible to the naked eye. A similar sighting occurred nearby on August 11. That sighting has not been explained, and it is unknown if it is valid. An article on this hoax has been submitted to CUFOS for publication in an issue of International UFO Reporter. |
