Hypotheses Concerning The Causes Of UFO Reports

Various hypotheses concerning the cause of UFO reports have been advanced...

• The Misperception / Hoax / Hallucination hypothesis (MHH), which attempts to show UFO reports as caused by mundane phenomena, can be tested and either supported or refuted (added 10/27/98).

• The Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH), which attempts to show UFO reports as caused by the technological and biological manifestations of life originating beyond Earth, can be tested and either supported or refuted. Some comments on this hypothesis from the author are relevant to determining if it may be a viable working hypothesis (added 11/99).

• Some skeptics suggests a "fairy-lore hypothesis" (FLH), which attempts to account for UFO reports as pure myth. Like other hypotheses, this offers potential for tests which would lead to support or refutation (added 11/99).
