| Report Summary | "[The party was] travelling by jeep from [de Mendonca's]
farm to the villiage of Ponta Poran... low clouds obscured the sky when...
Mrs. Mendonca spotted a large ball of light about the size of the full moon...
the party discussed the thing until it suddenly began a rapid approach.
It was then that they found that the light was one object but two objects
flying side by side. They followed a horizontal course, but oscillated from
one side to the other in a strange wobbling motion, and appeared to be spinning
on their own axes. "Then one of then stopped in midair and dived toward the ground, stopping a few feet above it, and about 60 feet from the jeep. The other object manuvered in circles around the vehicle... [depsite the] intense light they emitted, it was obvious they were shaped like a flattened spheroid, encircled by a ring at the equator... Both [objects] were the same size, and exhibited the same colors - the upper part was a fiery red as was the ring, and the lower portion was surrounded by a bright, silvery-white glow. [They] were extremely brilliant and intermittently sent brilliant beams of light toward the jeep... "[They] drove bravely on... faster. The objects stayed with them, sometimes close, sometimes at a distance, and occasionally, one would get ahead of the jeep and shine a brilliant light on [it] while the other followed closely behind... when they stopped, the objects dived at the jeep at high speed. Then the other one hovered, shined a beam of light at the ground, and the first then approached the lighted area as if about to land... "... during this landing approach... its luminosity dimmed considerably and they could make out a huge metallic sphere, about 15 feet in diameter, circled at the equator by a large, apparently rotating metallic ring. No doors, windows, or portholes were to be seen, and there was absolutely no sound, heat, or odor. "As the jeep approached Ponta Poran, the objects moved away. When Marcio (the driver) stopped to refill the gasoline tank, the weird globes closed in again, and one apparently landed, where it stayed for about fifteen minutes, after which both objects vaulted into the sky and stayed in one spot until the... party drove into Ponta Poran."[footnote 1] |

When the jeep was stopped for a gas refill, the objects approached and then departed as the jeep entered the village. |

| Comments / Conclusion | Unusual that no EM effects were reported. Repeated similar events occurred through 2/58, and were witnessed by numerous other witnesses and investigators. In one later event, EM effects were reported. |
