1996 Hikes & Expeditions
Latest first...
- Nov. 23: Tikaboo Hike. No snow, but very cold at top.
Just Glenn and a film crew doing a land use documentary.
- October 19: Edwards AFB Open House.
High winds cancelled some events and sandblasted the crowd.
- October 5: Mt. Sterling.
Nice time. Most of the interceptors were there (no one else).
Spotted a building we hadn't known about in Nye Canyon
south of Papoose Lake
and distant caves near a mountaintop in the Nellis Range.
As usual, nothing to see at Papoose Lake itself.
- August 24: Leviathan Cave.
Same day as Rachel rave party. Got to the cave this time.
Found a bomb on the trail, which the Air Force later took away.
Was it a BDU or BLU?
- July 27: Tikaboo Peak
- June 22: Mt.Charleston plane
crash site near Las Vegas.
A very difficult climb, compounded by a wrong turn at the beginning.
Those who made it to the top found the plane just where it should be,
on the trail near the summit.
- May 4: Tikaboo Peak
- April 19: Tikaboo Peak
(Unscheduled)
Short-notice hike to coincide with the E.T. Highway unveiling/protest.
- March 9: Sunrise Mountain,
overlooking Nellis AFB Area II
Not the best viewpoint,
couldn't see the high security compound very well.
We have since found better spots.
