This list was scanned directly from a two-page sheet given to me on 6/20/96 by Col. Andrew Bourland, Nellis Director of Public Affairs. The list was prepared by Major Jeff Shea, a real estate specialist at Nellis. The list was given to me at a public scoping meeting for the Nellis Range Renewal, in response to my request for the maps accompanying Public Laws 99-606 and 98-485. Col. Bourland said they could not find the original maps described in the public laws. However, he indicated that this description is accurate, and he provided a map drawn from this description, clearly excluding Area 51. Col. Lorrie Bourland told me that the Nellis Range Renewal will include only these lands and no others.
The lands are specified in township/range coordinates. Townships and ranges appear on most USGS maps. Each township/range pair describes a 6-by-6 mile block, which is further divided into square-mile sections numbered like this....

There has been a suggestion that two parcels of land now controlled by Nellis might be returned to the public domain in the course of the renewal. One is a half-mile wide strip of land extending west from the Indian Springs airfield. This was a runway approach zone, apparently to allow low-level approaches by the Thunderbirds and other aircraft. The other parcel is the former small arms range in the Vegas Valley northwest of Nellis Air Force Base.
