Johnson has been named manager of the U.S. Department of Energy's Nevada office, officials announced on Wednesday. Johnson has served as manager of the DOE's Amarillo, Texas, office since September 1992. He will assume his duties at the Nevada Operations Office on May 5. Terry Vaeth, who has served as acting manager of the Nevada office since February 1995, will remain in his official position as deputy manager. ``Under Gerry's leadership, Nevada will continue making important contributions to the nation's security and economy,'' said Secretary of Energy Federico Pena. The Nevada Operations Office operates and maintains the 1,350-square-mile Nevada Test Site, located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, and other facilities and sites.
