Subject: Edwards UFO mystery solved

The Edwards UFO mystery has been solved.  The Truth Is Out There!

The sighting took place several weeks ago at Edwards AFB South Base (formerly
Muroc Army Air Field).  The time was 11:00 p.m., and the witnesses were
personnel at the B-2 test facility.  All described "a large aircraft, moving
very slowly, several hundred feet above the ground."  Some said it appeared
to hover.

As it turns out, the "aircraft" was a movie prop for "From Earth To Moon: The
Story Of Apollo," a mini-series being filmed at Edwards and other suitable
locations.  The prop was suspended from a mobile crane, unseen by witnesses
in the darkness.  It was tens, not hundreds, of feet above the ground.  This
is a good lesson about the difficulty of identifying objects at night from
their lights.  The lack of a clear frame of reference degraded the observers'
ability to determine size and altitude.
