Saw a blurb in the 4/09/97 newsbriefs on clari.local.nevada about the
Shoshone Indians taking their claims regarding the NTS to the UN.

(NEW YORK)- The Shoshone (``shoh-SHOH'nee'') Nation government has
appealed to the United Nations for help in seeking the return of the
Nevada Test Site... which it claims as part of its ancestral lands. In
its appeal the Shoshone Nation claims the U-S has raped the land...
allowing mining and more than 900 nuclear explosions on the site. The
United States does not recognize the Shoshone Nation government and
considers the appeal frivolous.
